CPAA participated in the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2012 held on 15th January. Over 38,000 people including professional runners, celebrities, corporates, NGOs and ordinary citizens participated in this event. Kotak Securities, GSK and Marico supported CPAA apart from individual volunteers. This year too actress Tara Sharma pledged her support and ran for CPAA. CPAA's Cancer Insurance Policy department organised a cancer detection camp at Vengurla, Konkan on 21st January 2012 for 250 individuals. A team of panel doctors, technicians and social workers traveled by road to conduct the camp. CPAA's insurance policy was offered to all the healthy individuals on a one-time payment of Rs. 8,000 and to be covered for 15 years. On 23rd January, Hotel J W Marriott opened their doors to childhood cancer patients and their parents along with CPAA's social workers to celebrate Republic Day. They organised an entertainment programme for the patients and treated them with snacks and gifts.
Sion Hospital, Mumbai organised a programme ‘Shukriya' for all the social workers who help them in caring for the patients, acting as a bridge between the doctor. Mallika Narayan was given a trophy by them appreciating the work she is doing there on behalf of CPAA. CPAA is proud to serve on the Terry Fox (India) Committee which has successfully completed its 14th run in Mumbai on 5th February 2012. CPAA's Piali Syam and Aditi Bapat represent CPAA on the committee. Over 7,000 students from various school of Mumbai participated in this non-competitive run from Oberoi Hotel to Brabourne Stadium. Funds raised through this event are donated by the Terry Fox Foundation, Canada to Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, to support their excellent cancer research projects. CPAA's Piali Syam, Susan Verghese, Shubha Maudgal and Aditi Bapat participated in the Lavasa Women's drive 2012. Cars were decked with imaginative themes and messages supporting various causes including cancer prevention. The event was supported by many Bollywood celebrities and personalities. The Oberoi Hotel holds an annual event called ‘Melting Pot' co-hosted by The Consular Corps in Mumbai, the Rotary Club of Bombay and the Consulates of 25 countries. Funds raised from the event are donated to one or more chosen charities, which must make a 10 minute presentation to the board. CPAA's Piali Syam delivered a powerful presentation created by Aditi Bapat. CPAA was chosen as one of the beneficiary NGOs this year for their project - Early detection of cancer for Marginalised Women. A gala event was held on 16th October at the Oberoi Regal Room with participating countries showcasing their food and culinary traditions. CPAA representatives too got a chance to interact with luminaries from different countries and inform them on our various activities. On 9th February at a reception held by the Melting Pot committee, the Grant cheque was awarded to CPAA by The Dean of the Consular Corps Mumbai, Mr. Antonio Bullón (Consul General of Spain) and Rotarian and Convener Mr. Gul Kripalani amidst representatives of the 25 participating consulates. |
