World No Tobacco Day 2007 - "Smoke Free Environment"

Every year, 31st May is observed as "World No Tobacco Day" the world over to create awareness about the ill-effects of tobacco. Each year India and CPAA have been singled out for praise from WHO for creating unique programmes which draw huge amounts of attention.

This year's theme promotes 100% smoke-free environments as the only effective way to protect people everywhere from exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke. 

CPAA will organise the following events for WNTD 2007:

International Conferences & Training Programs
ICCCPO Regional Meeting, Bali

Meghana Suchak our Counselling Psychologist was invited to present a paper and chair a session at the recently held regional meet of the International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parent Organization (ICCCPO) from the 5-7th of April. There were representatives from 61 nations for this meet. The theme was exchanging information and ideas to tackle the obstacles that parents face in their fight against cancer.
Meghana made a presentation "Understanding the coping mechanisms of parents whose children suffer from cancer" which highlighted different methods used by parents in such a situation.
The survivors session that she chaired threw light on some of the problems faced by survivors and what can be done to make them feel more in control of their lives while they are going through their treatments.

APCASOT Training Programme, Brisbane

APCASOT 2006UICC Asia-Pacific Cancer Society Training Grants  are offered by the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) and the Cancer Council Australia to develop cancer control capacity in the Asia-Pacific region. The grants provide selected Fellows with a unique training and development experience and by providing the hosting cancer societies the opportunity to contribute to cancer control in the Asia-Pacific region. 

The competitive selection is based on the evaluation of an international panel of cancer society experts in the region. This year Neeta More from Dept of Diagnostic Services and Aditi Bapat from Dept of New Projects, CPAA, were chosen for this fellowship to study at the Queensland Cancer Fund, Brisbane, Australia from 16 to 20th April under the supervision of Dr Jeff Dunn in order to facilitate the transfer of technologies, techniques and skills needed to better serve the cancer research activities, treatment & care of cancer patients in both the countries.
