World No Tobacco
Day: On 31st May each year WHO celebrates World No Tobacco Day,
highlighting the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocating
for effective policies to reduce consumption. Each year CPAA actively
works towards this end in a number of ways. World No Tobacco Day is
commemorated in the form of lectures, camps and rallies all over the
country. Here are the snapshots of the events held this year.
Mumbai:
An ENT cancer screening camp was conducted on 28th May at the
Phoenix Mill premises where 273 individuals were screened. Birla
Wellness, Cipla and Johnson & Johnson supported CPAA's activities by
providing samples of their NRT products. Chief Guests, Designer Shaina N
C and actress Sharbani Mukherjee launched CPAA's Tobacco Cessation
Programme, 'QUIT TOBACCO FOR LIFE' on this occassion. This is a unique
programme to help those who wish to quit tobacco habits - smoking or
smokeless. To begin with, Dr. Kunal Oswal spoke to employees at Johnson &
Johnson and introduced them to this programme.

24924000 or make an appointment to attend clinics at Prabhadevi on
Monday, Tuesday and Friday.
CPAA and
MIG Cricket club co-hosted a drawing competition for children
on 30th May at their club in Bandra. 125 children including some
childhood cancer patients, in the age group of 5 - 15 years
participated. The competition was adjudged by renowned artists Shubha
Gokhale, Ruksana Pathan, Shipra Mediratta, Amrita Dalmia and Anita Goel.
Singer Shibani Kashyap was the chief guest at the event.
A mega ENT cancer screening camp was organized at Naigaon Police
Sankul (Complex) for police personnel and their families on 31st May.
767 healthy individuals were screened, while 237 people were advised a
follow-up. The next ENT cancer screening camp was organized on 8th June
at Anuraj Industries at Goregaon for the workers of Ashirwad Industrial
Estate. 485 industrial workers were screened out of which more than 60%
were advised a follow-up.
Delhi:
An early detection cancer screening camp was organized on 29th May
at Siddharth Public School, Govindpuri. Residents of nearby slums
availed of this facility in large numbers.
Pune:
4 cancer awareness lectures were held for Junior Red Cross's
students, Hamal Panchayat, construction workers of Vascon and a ladies
self help group. Subsequently, 2 early detection cancer screening camps
were held for 135 men of the Hamal Panchayat and Nhavare Sugar factory
and 3 early detection cancer screening camps were held for 159 women of
Kalasgaon, Vishrantwadi, Gandhinagar, Sanjay Park and Nhavare village.
12 women were advised mammography. A cancer awareness talk was also held
for 300 women of 'Sasa - Mahila Griha Udyog', Sanaswadi.

CPAA in
association with Cymroza Art Gallery inaugurated their
seventh annual art exhibition 'Colours of Life' - Art
Supports Life on 6th June 2011 at the gallery itself.
Present, to do the honours, were chief guest Vivek Oberoi and
guests of honour Shaina NC and Sharbani Mukherjee. Founder
Chairman and CEO of CPAA, Mr. Y.
K. Sapru announced that the proceeds from this year would go to
CPAA's Childrens' Education Fund to support the education of
childhood cancer patients, yet another step towards CPAA's
mission of 'Total Management of Cancer'.
This collection included 139 senior and contemporary
Indian artists. The range of works covered a wide spectrum of
interpretations utilizing various mediums. Curator, Piali
Syam carefully selected a number of outstanding pieces to
cater to a wide audience of art lovers and range of budgets.
Over the years this exhibition has found a place for itself in
the art world and the art buyers as well as the artists look
forward to the show.
This exhibition gives art lovers an opportunity to reach out to
patients and help them conquer the disease. The exhibition

CPAA
in collaboration with Rajgarhia Dharamshala (AIIMS), New Delhi
commenced yoga classes for cancer patients and their kin from 2nd June.
These classes are held every Tuesday & Thursday between 3.30 - 4.30 pm.
Dr. Kedarnath of Kedarnath Yoga Center, Gurgaon gives his valuable time
for this noble cause.
CPAA in association
with Pidilite Industries, Shaina NC and Manish Malhotra presented
'Caring with Style', a fashion show at Intercontinental-The Lalit, in
Mumbai on 19th June 2011. The glamorous fashion show saw a lavish mix of
celebrities from the film fraternity, prominent industrialists and
achievers from different walks of life sashaying down the ramp in Shaina
N C and Manish Malhotra creations. The ever gorgeous Kajol Devgan graced
the occasion as Chief Guest with Nita Ambani as the guest of honour.

Ghazal Khazana

Cancer Patients Aid
Association along with the Parents Association Thallasemic Unit
Trust (PATUT) spear-headed by noted ghazal singer Mr. Pankaj
Udhas gets together the country's finest ghazal singers to
present the 10th year of 'Ghazal Khazana'. It is truly a
treasure of talent where a wide spectrum of artistes like
Rajinder Mehta, Talat Aziz, Anup Jalota, Mitalee and Bhupinder
Singh, Jaspinder Narula, Richa Sharma, Ustad Raashid Khan, Ajay
and Abhijit Pohankar and Pankaj Udhas are to perform.
This 2-day
concert for the cause of cancer patients and thalasemic children
is dedicated this year to late Shri K L Saigal and will be held on
29th and 30th of July 2011 at The Regal Room, The Oberoi,
Nariman Point, Mumbai 21. For more

'Appreciation Award' by the Ekata Manch in recognition of
selfless and dedicated services rendered to the society through
her work in Early Detection of Cancer at CPAA. |

CPAA's Dr. Shubha Maudgal
delivered a lecture on Psychosocial Problems Faced by
Siblings of Childhood Cancer Patients to an audience of
pediatric doctors at Children's Hospital of Detroit on
6th June. Thereafter, she along with CPAA's Susmita Mitra and
Kavita Kulkarni attended the World Conference on Breast
Cancer at Hamilton, Canada from 7th - 11th June and
presented a total of 6 papers on various breast cancer related
topics. |
