22nd September is a day conceived and ear-marked by Cancer Patients Aid Association since the past 12 years to bring cheer, happiness and smiles to cancer patients all over the country. This annual event is a gesture from the association to show its support and care to thousands of cancer patients and their families.
Mumbai: This year a Rose Day Mela (Fair) was organised for the patients and their family members on the 20th September 2008. Not only were they treated to an evening of fun, food and festivities, but they also got a chance to meet their favourite stars like senior actress Dimple Kapadia who came along-with her daughter, actress Twinkle Khanna, singer Sonu Nigam and actor Arjun Rampal. They distributed sweets and gifts amongst the patients and spent time interacting with them.
On Rose Day, 22nd September 2008, CPAA staff and volunteers came out in full strength to show their support and spread some happiness & cheer amongst patients fighting cancer in various hospitals & treatment centres of Mumbai, by distributing roses and a specially prepared goody bag to them. Tata Memorial, Jaslok, Hinduja, Cama & Albless, Wadia Hospital to name a few had special programmes and distribution of gifts.
The Rose Day program at the Shanti Avedna Hospice saw the choir group from St. Pauls Church perform live for the inmates as the CPAA volunteers distributed goodies and gifts to the patients and the staff taking care of them. This was followed by a dance performance put together by choreographers Nicole, Javed and Marisha. The program ended with a special screening of the movie 'Lage Raho Munnabhai'.
Delhi: Select City Walk- Saket, organised a special screening of the movie 'Welcome to Sajjanpur' for the patients. They were welcomed with beautiful roses and treated with popcorns and Pepsi. Senior actress and a long time patron of CPAA, Mrs. Sushma Seth was also present to share this wonderful moment with the children. This was followed by a tea party with lots of singing and dancing and gifts for the patients. On the 26th Sept, Rose Day was celebrated in the Pediatric Ward of AIIMS Hospital with roses and gifts. The Medical Superintendent, department head, other doctors and members of the Lioness Club also participated in the Rose Day celebration.
Chennai: Our newly inaugurated branch in Chennai organised celebrations in association with the Paterson Cancer Centre. Indian Overseas Bank donated Rs.50,000 towards gifts for the patients. Makkal TV, a Chennai based TV Channel aired an interview of CPAA branch manager Padma Narayanan who spoke about CPAA's programs and activities.
